Empty

Note:  won 3rd place Long Beach Art Association Show 1974

“Empty” defines space on a small scale.  There is an implied illusion here.  We are looking at something that is empty, while in fact we are looking at a space surrounded by sculpture.  The sculpture dominates the empty space due in part to the choice of stainless steel and a high gloss finish.

“Empty is part of Pastorius’ erosion series, which explores the effect of long term submersion of metals in salt water.  The high polished surfaces contrast with the eroded surfaces and addresses the issue of time being a factor in life while space remains relatively constant.
